VISUAL COMMUNICATION
Digital Imaging for Industry
January 8 – 24, 2019
Thompson Rivers University Art gallery
Exhibition curated by Colleen Foucault and Terryl Atkins
This exhibition highlighted best practices of digital imaging for industry done by first and second year students learning digital imaging in the Communications program at TRU and illustrated the various ways that students developed inventive solutions to lighting and compositional problems to create an effective vignette emphasizing subject matter, environment and story.
The curators selected a cross-section of various exercises on composition and lighting in relation to still life, food, portraiture, and landscape, including one at the more experimental end using a flashlight as the light source on a timed exposure.. In an age where anyone can acquire a user-friendly digital camera and simplified variations on photoshop tools abound, learning to see, assess and create compelling imagery remains a skill-set vital to excellence in visual communication meant for industry.
