Gary Carlson is a new media artist working in photography, video and installation. Fundamental to his work are ideas of representation and perception in relation to virtual images. He is equally influenced by the landscape, the history of art, and contemporary culture.
Utilizing his background in painting, drawing, photography and sculpture, Gary creates images that exist as painterly, dreamlike, in-between spaces, that function poetically and as documents. His images are culled from photographs and videos taken at numerous locations and are constructed digitally. Further, his images reference ideas of interconnection, transmission and the redefinition of space through connections between studio processes, the body, the digital and the visual.
